G2 microsystems, a silicon chip manufacturer based in Campbell, California who currently design and manufacture the integrated circuits for most of the worlds WiFi tags, this week announced its next generation family of WiFi integrated circuits.
The Epsilon family are fully WiFi (802.11 b/g) compliant and designed to provide a complete solution on a single circuits, whilst still drawing far lower power than current integrated circuits. There are also improved sensor interfaces to measure and monitor motion, temperature and acceleration.
This new family of integrated circuits will lead to WiFi tags becoming smaller and have longer battery than the current products. It also makes it easier for technology manufacturers to build WiFi tracking into their products, avoiding the need for external tags all together. In the medical equipment arena for example we foresee all products having WiFi tags built in as standard within a few short years.
