The Airetrak Wi-Fi tracking solution works directly with standard based 802.11 wireless LAN networks. This is different to many other RTLS solutions which are based on proprietary wireless standards or make use of proprietary equipment overlaid onto 802.11 infrastructures.

Airetrak works closely with Cisco because of Cisco’s integrated support for location tracking and extensive functionality offered by its 2710 Location Appliance engine. The Location Appliance allows tag location and other information to be passed across the wireless LAN to the Airetrak system.

Airetrak is a certified Cisco Technology Developer Partner (CTDP) after having its solutions certified compatible with Cisco’s wireless LAN products through Cisco’s Technology Development Partner program.

The design of the wireless LAN network such can affect the accuracy achieved by the tracking solution. The density and position of Access Points have an effect on how well the algorithms calculate location across floors and between floors. Airetrak works closely with the Cisco channel partners designing and installing the wireless LAN to ensure the wireless LAN implementation is location ready.
