In situations where precise accuracy is required, Exciters can be used to pinpoint the exact location of an asset. Using the same Wi-Fi tags, the exciter can trigger a small magnetic sensor within the tag which causes it to send a signal over the wireless LAN to ResourceView. The exact position of the tag can be determined from the position of the exciter.

This provides instant information for example that a tagged asset or person has passed through a doorway or into/out of a defined area such as equipment store.

Airetrak recommends use of the Aeroscout Exciters products as they provide multiple options for Exciter sizes and read ranges. The exciter range can vary from 2m to up to 6m which allow different applications such as chokepoint indication (doorway) to room level detection (is the tag in a small room).

The exciter can be powered using Power over Ethernet (PoE) avoiding the need to install electrical cables
